Stroud Head

My son and I were walking in Stroud Preserve today, and while we were exploring the two small dams, I noticed this little ‘gem’ in the middle of the upper water way.

Plastic Baby Head found during an early spring walk at Stroud Preserve in Chester County PA.

Needless to say, finding a plastic baby doll head in the middle of the Preserve is a little odd, hence the reason for the picture.

Updates

After Posting this image to my Facebook page, I had someone from Stroud Preserve comment on the post

Oh dear! I’ll let our preserve manager know there’s litter out there!

As for the dry “ponds,” a few years back we restored the stream running through Stroud by removing the dams, which allowed land to convert from ponds (man-made and not good for water quality) to wetlands (more diverse than coral reefs and wonderful for filtering water). – Stroud Preserve

To which I responded –

Thanks for the contact. I should have known better than to use the term ‘pond’ so loosely!

As for this little ‘gem’, it can be found in the larger of the two dam areas near 39°56’49” N 75°39’12” W, the upper one, walking up the dirt road…

Has anyone else Found something Odd within the Preserve?

I know, I LOST a lens cap a couple of years back, but…

What have you found?

April 8, 2015 – I volunteered at the Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center, helping in their studies of Shamona Creek for science class. During the first session of the morning, while waiting for the students to arrive, I noticed a discarded car battery, laying with 10 feet of the creek.

Stroud Preserve Springtime in B&W

Some images taken during a recent spring time walk around Stroud Preserve.

All images were shot in ‘traditional’ HDR bracket fashion, and processed into a ‘raw’ combined HDR file.

Normally, I use Adobe Photoshop to do my B&W conversion, but since the Google/Nik Software upgrade, I now had a chance to play with Silver Efex Pro 2.

Photoshop is great for doing a straight conversion via the native B&W menu, but to explore other options, quickly, and then build on them, Silver Efex Pro is the answer.

I still used Photoshop to tweak the final files, but I ended up in a different place than I originally envisioned.

So, what do you think?

Update

Since getting this e-mail, I have had the chance to visit both the Binky Lee and ChesLen Preserves with Madison and Logan for our Family Nature Walks! (Unfortunately, Amy can join us because of her allergies!)

Again I am blown away by the fact that I have traveled past both these preserves many a times and never realized they were there, let alone how beautiful they are!

22 Images Submitted to Panoramio

Andrew Seymour on Panoramio
Andrew Seymour Panoramio/Google Earth

It has been several months since I have had a chance to sit down and pull a collection of images to submit to Panoramio for Google Earth.

So this morning, while I was drinking my coffee, I slowly went back through my catalog of images, and pulled together a series of 22 images that I thought would be a good selection for submission, including late Fall, Winter and Spring images from:

If you care to see what I have selected, as well as my other images that have been accepted, they can be found on my Panoramio (Google Earth) account.

As always, please feel free to add comments!

Update on Panoramio submissions

6/6/2011 – Wow! The folks that monitor submission seem to be working overtime!

Normally, or at least from my past experience, it usually takes 3-5 days for any news on images being accepted, but by late Sunday night, ALL 22 of my images have been approved! (I now have 135 images on Google Earth!)

I would like to welcome my newest Blogger, Madison!

Logan, Daddy and I wanted to go for a walk, and Daddy happened to bring up Stroud Preserve. When we got there we saw a horse and a bunch of yellow fields like in the picture to the left. We went on a horse trail up really high,I was really scared. If you were to look down you would see a  part of Brandywine creek and lots of trees. When we were done that trail we went home.
