  • A Fall walk in the Peacedale Preserve

A Fall walk in the Peacedale Preserve

Some images taken during a late Fall walk in the Natural Lands Trust’s Peacedale Preserve in Chester County, PA.

There was a weather front moving through while I was there, which allowed for some very interesting cloud and lighting conditions, and several times, I was able to see some Crepuscular rays.

At one point during my walk, I encountered a real old-timer.

In the middle of the Preserve, there is a huge beech tree, at is 3-4 feet in diameter, and easily several hundreds of years old!

I don’t think I have ever seen a monster like this!

I was also extremely surprised with all the wooly bear caterpillar that I encountered. (Predicting Winter Weather: Woolly Bear Caterpillars)

During my walk, I had to avoid walking on over a dozen of these critters!

  • Hunting for Fall Colors

    Hunting for Fall Colors

On Friday the 18th, I had a chance to drive around again looking for the Fall colors.

Here we are, over halfway through October, and there still is a fair amount of green still in the trees, but in other places, some of the trees are already bare.

All these shoots were taken using my Canon 18-55 IS using both two Tiffen Neutral Density filters (1.2 & 0.9) at f22+ for 15 to 25 seconds.

I gotta find me a ND filter in the 2.1 range. My 3.0 is too much, and I do not like having two layers of glass on the lens…

Barn door with corn stalks – Digital Art

I am still ‘new’ to the digital art/painting capabilities of Adobe Photoshop CS6, but it has been a lot of fun playing!

Earlier in the week, while out on a GPS drive, I captured the base image while shooting out the car window, and published it ‘as is’ so to speak.

A couple of days later, playing with a new processing technique, I came up with this!

I’m still fine tuning which images this technique works best, so come back again to see more images!

  • Minquas Fire Company Open House

My son and I were out doing Saturday errands, when we happened by the Minquas Fire Company Open House, and what boy could resist Firetrucks…

We spent about a half-hour wandering around, looking at the various pieces of equipment, and being very thankful, that these folks are under 5 minutes away from my home!

Later in the evening, I got a Facebook mail from the folks at the station house, asking if they could use the photo I took during the Super Moon for their Facebook profile.

I quickly responding by saying Yes!

Again Many, Many Thanks to all those First Responders, and I am so glad that you are right down the street!

  • Stylized Hay Bales

Folks that live in Chester County, or anywhere hay is harvested, have seen bale after bale just lying in fields.

So on this rainy day, I decided to take a second look at some of my images in my collection…

I am going to have to keep this technique in mind for future use!

If you are interested in how I processed these images, please let me know!
